Rocky Romero

Whether it’s off the ropes or on the mat, Romero has solidified himself as a true artist of the ring at NJPW. Having worked the indie circuit in America early in his career, he joined NJPW through its Los Angeles Dojo in 2002.

Romero’s potential was recognised by the LA Dojo, and led to his Japanese debut alongside then partner Ricky Reyes in October 2002. Not long after, Romero would don the legendary Black Tiger mask and engage in a fierce rivalry with Tiger Mask that saw him claim the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship in October 2005.

It’s as a tag team wrestler though that has seen Romero to his greatest successes. He has won the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team title a record eight times with Davey Richards, Alex Koslov and Beretta. After Romero and Beretta, Roppongi Vice, disbanded in 2017, Romero took on more of a ‘player coach’ role, acting as the ‘producer’ for young phenoms Roppongi 3K. Romero has already coached SHO and YOH to the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Championships three times, all while wrestling himself and even announcing for NJPW World.

Rocky is now a regular on NJPW STRONG, where he’s a dangerous competitor regardless of opponent!
